It’s Time to Gain Back the Freedom That Once Was

by Sandra Ami

Henry David Thoreau said it best when he said “That government is best which governs least” and with Thomas Jefferson “The course of history shows that as a Government grows, Liberty decreases.” We The People, have given so much up to the Government, as they are the parents of the people, to decide on our health care, and our education, that we have given up our basic liberties and ability to govern ourselves. As though we are hiring a gardener, or a housekeeper, we have given the responsibility to our Government to make the most simplistic of decisions for us.

You may have seen the genius marketing done at the request of Government and big Corporation in the media outlets; selling us such things as the idea of Medicare or telling us which foods are more healthy for us, or which prescriptions help the symptoms of our ailment, only to find a month or two later that they were in fact wrong. We accepted that, as long as the Government will take care of us, we need not take care of ourselves. By giving the power to the Government over us, we give up our liberty to govern ourselves, and we give up the fundamental ability to make simple decisions for ourselves.

President Ronald Regan alluded to the loss of freedom in 1981 when he said that “no arsenal or no weapon, in the arsenals of the world is so formidable, as the will and moral courage of free men and women.” This statement would never have been said, nor would it have been needed, if freedom was not in jeopardy.

Bob Barr, of the Libertarian Party was making a statement of truth, as to how the great marketing skills of the American government had reached it’s goal to the people when he said “Most people really don’t care about what their government is doing, as long as they get the handouts, as long as they get something from the government in their little world, their little part of the world, their ok with it, they don’t’ look down the road.”

The marketing has done such a great job to dilute the public into believing “Government entities” can take better care of “the people” than the people can take care of themselves. We the People have given up our liberties to the government, allowing them to make the decisions for us, thinking it is less stressful if we give up the stress of everyday life, as to not have to worry about our health care, our food intake, or medicines, thinking the government ‘knows best’ and has our best interest in mind. As we so adamantly forget, and as it has been quoted by Patrick Henry “The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government.”

Ron Paul, Republican Congressman & Campaign for Liberty, so eloquently stated when he was trying to open the eyes of the people “the constitution was written so precisely to restrain the power and force of government and to protect the liberties of each and every one of us.” Did he get his word across to the people? Apparently it takes a conglobation of statements from leaders voted by the majority to touch the people.

Ronald Regan also said “you and I have the ability and the dignity and the right to make our own decisions and determine our own destiny.” “Each of us has a natural right, from God, to defend his person, his liberty and his person” stated by Frederic Bastiat a man rose in diversity, but used his intellect and interests in law to make a change.

I could quote you all the great quotes of  Martin Luther King, Barry Goldwater in 1964, Tacitus, who says “The more corrupt the state, the more it legislates” oh the quotes go on and on, with great leaders; men and women of wisdom, experience and admiration, who have made a difference in this world, who have been great leaders of liberty, happiness and pursuit of education.

Such great people as Ayn Rand in 1959 who through her great sacrifice later stated when asked “how do you feel with the political trends of the United States” said “I feel it is unstable, that you see destruction all around you, and that you are moving toward disaster, until and unless all those Welfare states conceptions have been reversed and rejected, because we are now moving towards complete collectivism or socialism, a system under which everybody is enslaved to everybody.”

Their have been many great Constitutionalists, George Carlin as one. He through his comedy tried to get the attention of Americans, tried to tell the people that we are in a big disastrous situation. Americans have been clouded by such great marketing that they now forget the meaning of liberty; they forget what the fundamentals in defining “American” stand for. We have given Liberty a back seat to the belief that our government has our best interest in mind. We don’t even bother to look at the cost, or the benefit in taxes to Big Government for our hard work. We have handed over our decisions and responsibilities at the cost of our liberties and rights.

It’s time to reverse the travesty that has plagued us throughout the years of legislation. It’s time to give the rights back to the people, to empower; make decisions for one ’s self and gain back the Freedom that once was.

Sandra Ami is trying to get the word to the public, your freedom is in jeopardy and your children are in serious danger.  http://amiablyme.wordpress.com/
